Even as we find ourselves at the early stages of the Cross Country Championships, two bright stars are already lighting up the horizon for Mississippi eighth-grade boys. These athletes are Neshoba Central's Quinton Dan and Simpson Academy's Parker Payne, both delivering impressive lifetime bests of under 19 minutes in the 5K.

Leading the charge is Quinton Dan. He set his remarkable lifetime best of 18:38 at the 2022 MHSAA 5-6-7 Super Regionals, a high-pressure environment held at Choctaw Trails. His resilience and tenacity on the tracks indicate a promising future in the sport.

Hot on his heels, Simpson Academy's Parker Payne is also showcasing an exceptional talent for the race. Payne managed to slide under the 19-minute mark at the Frank Horton "Night" Classic in Memphis, Tennessee, illustrating his fierce competitive spirit and endurance.
