Monday Morning Recap: Several State Leads Fall

*John Scott Kendricks at 2022 Adidas Outdoor Nationals

The highlight of the weekend was Oxford High School's John Scott Kendricks breaking the Mississippi High School Boys Pole Vault record at the Oxford Relays, jumping an impressive 17 feet and three-quarters of an inch.

Scott, who is committed to Arkansas, is the reigning MHSAA 6A Champion and Adidas Outdoor Nationals Champion in the Pole Vault and is undefeated this season. He also broke the state record previously held by his older brother, Sam Kendricks, who is the current American record holder in the event.

Kendricks now finds himself at No. 1 in the nation in the event, and is potentially after some more national titles this Summer. 

RANKINGS: United States High School Boys Pole Vault List

Another standout performance in the jumps came from Clinton's Tyler Nichols, the reigning MHSAA 6A Champion in the High Jump, who opened up his season with a MileSplit Mississippi 1st-Team mark of 6-8 in the High Jump, winning the Southern Miss High School Invitational. Nichols is now ranked No. 1 in Mississippi and No. 9 in the nation.

Center Hill's Keilon Jones surprised everyone with a lifetime best performance of 46-2.5 in the Triple Jump, earning him his first-ever MileSplit Mississippi 1st-Team mark. Jones is now ranked No. 2 in Mississippi and No. 24 in the nation.

Kennedy Stringfellow continued to impress in multiple events, including the Long Jump, where he jumped a season's best of 22-11 to win the Southern Miss High School Invitational, raised his state leading mark, and is now ranked No. 38 in the nation in the event.

Sumrall's Heidi Hudson also had a great day, winning both the Long Jump and High Jump events at the Southern Miss High School Invitational. The indoor High Jump and Long Jump state record holder jumped 5-6 in the High Jump and 18-1 in the Long Jump, ranking her No. 16 in the nation in the High Jump.

Biloxi's Cheyanne Alston continued her undefeated streak in the Triple Jump, winning the Southern Miss High School Invitational with a leap of 37-4.

Other notable performances included Indea Pounds from Columbia High School, who won the High Jump at the Petal Invitational with a jump of 5-4, middle school sensation Charve Gibson from Jefferson County HS, who won the Triple Jump and Long Jump at the Brookhaven Speed Trials, Lenasia Drummond from Hattiesburg High School, who placed second in the Triple Jump and Long Jump at the Southern Miss High School Invitational, and Jack Gibson from Corinth High School, who placed third at the Oxford Relays with a lifetime best jump of 13-1 in the Pole Vault, and could be well on his way to snagging an MHSAA 4A title. 

Lastly, MHSAA 6A standout Maxiumus Littleton from Clinton High School won Field performer of the meet because of his impressive showing at the Southern Miss High School Invitational, winning the Triple Jump and placing second in the High Jump.
