The Weekend Ahead: Miss. Outdoor T&F Back in full swing

Clinton Season Opener

Hampton vs Gathwright continued

Clinton's Omari Hampton and Meridian's Jeffery Gathright have spent the better part of the last few months competing to be the top indoor sprinter in Mississippi.

Now, as the competition shifts to outdoor, we will get an early head-to-head from these two studs, who come in as the top seed times in both the 100m and the 200m.

These races may give us an early indication on who leads the race for the MHSAA 6A individual title in these events.

Kendricks looks to continue his unbeaten run

John Scott Kendricks from Oxford has not lost to anyone in the outdoor pole vault since 2021, eventually becoming a national champion in the event last year.

While we don't know if he will choose to vault in either Pearl or Clinton, it can be assumed that he will be going after another top performance.

Since there is still a chance that his indoor season is not done yet, this meet will serve as a great tuneup.

*Meagan Womack at the 2022 MHSAA 6A Outdoor Track and Field North State Championships

Womack looks to sweep the throws

Clinton's Meagan Womack has absolutely dominated the indoor season, winning in the shot put every time she has competed this year. As she transitions to the outdoor season, the Mississippi State signee will look to continue this string of dominance in both the shot put and the discus.

If Womack holds form, she should easily win her season opener, as well as own the top marks in the state.

Littleton continues his breakout season

Maxiumus Littleton of Clinton has been the best all-around Mississippi jumper in the indoor season. He is looking to put a string of jumps together on his home turf that could potentially place him at No. 1 in Mississippi in his respective events

While he should easily sweep the jumps in Clinton he is also competing against the likes of Pearl's Kingi McNair and Brandon's Kennedy Stringfellow who are competing across town.

Clinton girls look to sweep the podium in the sprints

The Clinton sprint squad army looks to be the best in Mississippi so far, and we will get to see them in action at the Clinton Season Opener. They have the top seeds in the 100m, 200m, 100m hurdles, and the 300m hurdles.

They have the likes of Zharia Bonner, Tacherria Lawson, and Nakirsten Hughes in the sprints, as well as Corshunna Hughes, Jenesis Williams, Kaitlyn Jones, and Tailer Thompson in the hurdles.

*Kaitlyn Jones winning the 2022 MHSAA 6A Outdoor Track and Field North State Championships

The fact that Clinton is this deep is a really scary reality for other schools. Look for them to invade the top of the leaderboard this weekend.

Other Athletes to watch

Daniel Hill of Meridian is the top seed in both the 110m and 300m hurdles. He will be looking for the win and the top time in the state.

Mississippi College signee Christian Parks of Clinton is the heavy favorite in the distance events.

Clinton's Miguel Bankston is taking a short break from the 800m and turning his focus on the 400m instead.
