Mississippi's cross country scene has seen its fair share of lightning-fast performances. None more so than at the beloved Choctaw Trails, home of the famous Watson High School Cross Country Classic.
The Watson Classic is no stranger to such stellar performances. With the event right around the corner, it seems fitting to take a trip down memory lane, recollecting some of the iconic runs we've witnessed.
First in line, and rightfully so, is Christian Balcer from East Central. His stupendous run at the 2020 MHSAA 5A Cross Country Championships set a blistering pace with a 15:15.4 finish.
Hot on his heels, both in terms of time and competition, is Oxford's own, Chase Rose. With a 15:25.8 finish, Rose's duel with Balcer at the 2020 Watson High School Cross Country Classic is etched in the record books of Mississippi's cross country history that we're bound to tell for generations to come.
