The 2023 MRA Cross Country Invitational promises a fierce competition with the state's top four Varsity Girls teams-East Rankin, Columbia, Madison Ridgeland, and Simpson-all clashing in a high-stakes race.
The undefeated East Rankin Lady Patriots face their toughest challenge yet, with Columbia Academy having previously pushed them close in thrilling encounters on multiple occasions.
Individual superstars Lilly Overby and Layla Warren, both sub-19 5K runners, headline a powerful field, with Overby fresh from her third-place finish at the Gulf Coast Stampede and Warren riding high from her victory at the Jackson Academy Invitational. Not to be overlooked, MRA, Columbia, and Simpson, as well as the Hattiesburg Forerunners, all have runners that are ready to give the Simpson duo a run for their money.
With Hattiesburg Forerunners' Henry Richardson taking center stage as the lone sub-17 5K runner and having already clinched a win at the Wildcat XC Open, the Varsity Boys 5K at the MRA Invitational is poised for fireworks.
Park Place's seasoned victor, Christopher Atkinson, brandishes his impressive 17:15.3 personal best from the Jackson Academy Invitational, hinting at a potential head-to-head battle with Richardson.
Don't count out the swift-footed Zachary Nobles, boasting impressive 10:15 and 4:44 records in the 3200m and 1600m respectively, as he sets his sights on the podium.
Loyd Star's Gauge Montgomery, with a stellar record of four wins this season, is undeniably in the hunt for a fifth crown at this meet.
The Richardson-led Hattiesburg Forerunners, backed by ace runners Max Bowling and Noah Moudy, and freshly ranked 6th in the state, are keen to etch another victory onto their 2023 tally.
