Weekend Preview: 2023 Miss. XC back in full force

  1. The Cathedral XC Twilight, though a small meet, is set to be a hotbed of competition, particularly among the Varsity Girls. Headlining the event are Simpson Academy's formidable duo, Layla Warren and Lilly Overby, both of whom will be racing their second 2-miler of the season. Warren already stunned at the Early Bird 2-miler, securing a win with a meet record time of 11:53.

  2. Simpson Academy's Lady Cougars are gearing up for a clash with the cohesive and strong Columbia Academy. In their last face-off at the Early Bird 2-miler, Simpson, propelled by Warren, Overby, and Charlee Franks, narrowly bested Columbia and was just a hair away from toppling East Rankin Academy, the No. 1 girls team in the state.

  3. Add Saint Aloysius' pair, Samantha Edwards and Hendrix Eldridge, to the mix, and the Varsity Girls race at this meet transforms into a nail-biting spectacle of Mississippi's finest young runners.

  4. On the Varsity Boys' side, watch for a neck-and-neck race between Simpson's Denver Carter and Columbia's Casey Haddox-Harvey, who enters as the defending champion. Additionally, keep an eye on Simpson's Parker Payne in the JV Boys 2-mile; he's eager to stretch his winning streak even further.
