- Despite its smaller scale, the Scott County Invitational is set to showcase some of Mississippi's finest talent. At the forefront is Madison St. Joseph's William Fugate, the No. 1 seed in the Boys' race. He's a 15:40 5K(XC) performer and holds the No. 3 spot on the 2023 All-MileSplit Mississippi Preseason Cross Country team.
In the Varsity Girls' race, all eyes will be on Hatfield's Ella Rankin, the fastest returner to the 2023 Cross Country season. With a 5K(XC) PR of 18:23, Rankin is expected to make a strong statement in her opening race.
Both Fugate and Rankin are opening their 2023 Cross Country seasons at this meet, and expectations are high. If past performance is any indicator, they're both poised to kick off the season with resounding victories.
