Heritage Academy's Sidney Stegall commits to Miss. College

Heritage Academy senior Sidney Stegall announced his verbal commitment to join the Mississippi College Cross Country and Track program on Saturday, per his Instagram account.

Stegall came onto the scene during the 2022 Outdoor Track and Field season. This past spring, the Heritage Academy star did not lose a race. Even while competing at the 2022 Mississippi Track and Field Meet of Champions and the 2022 RunningLane Track Championships, Stegall remained undefeated.

Stegall's track personal bests consist of 9:27 for the 3200m, 4:23 for the 1600m, and 1:55 for the 800m. All of these PRs came at the tail end of his track season.

A 6 x MAIS 5A Track State Champion, Stegall has a plethora of accolades. One of his most impressive performances was at the 2022 Mississippi Track and Field Meet of Champions, where Stegall took down a star-studded field, including multiple NCAA Division I signees.

Though he has only raced three meets this Cross Country season, it has been nothing to write off. Stegall currently holds the No. 5 5K mark in the state with a time of 15:44 at the 2022 Southern Showcase in Huntsville, Ala.

Stegall is preparing to join Mississippi College during its most successful era in school history. In 2021, the Choctaws made the NCAA Division II Cross Country National Championships for the first time in program history, where they went on to place 23rd overall. According to the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coach's Association, they are currently ranked 16th in the nation.

He will join a Mississippi College team that houses many other Mississippi high school greats, such as Christian Balcer and Brock Kelly.

In the Instagram post where Stegall verbally committed, he thanked Coach Reneker of Mississippi College for the opportunity. He also thanks his parents for supporting and coaching him, and God for his blessings.

Stegall will be eligible to sign his national letter of intent on November 9th, 2022.
