Valencia Watson, debatably Mississippi's best short sprinter, is headed to the University of Southern Mississippi in the Fall.
Watson has earned four MHSAA 5A titles in the 100m and 200m dash events, and would likely be six MHSAA 5A titles if not for the season cancellation her sophomore year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Her impressive achievements also include an undefeated streak against fellow Mississippi athletes in the 100m and 200m events since 2019. This season alone, Watson has secured six victories, solidifying her position as the top-ranked sprinter in both the 100m and 200m events throughout Mississippi.
As Watson takes her talents to the University of Southern Mississippi, she joins an impressive roster of committed athletes, including fellow Mississippi sprinter Addison McLaurin, as well Clinton High jumper Maxiumus Littleton.
Track and field enthusiasts eagerly anticipate how Watson's future will unfold as she continues to hone her skills and compete at a collegiate level.
