After yet another dominating performance at the 2022 Tupelo XC Invitational, we think we made the right call.

Brookelyn Morgan successfully defended her home turf this past weekend by winning the 2022 Tupelo XC Invitational. With a time of 19:36.0, this was Morgan's third straight win of the season.

Morgan, the owner of the fastest 5k in the state for 2022 with a 19:08 8K from the 2022 Saltillo XC Invitational, pushed the pace early on in her classic front-running style. Her front running led to a commanding victory.

Not far behind Morgan was Hernando's Kaitlyn Burge, who ran a 5K SB 19:44.

This was a massive breakthrough for Burge as it was her first time cracking the sub-20 mark for the 5k.

This time now catapults her onto the 2022 Mississippi High School Girl's 5k top ten list.

Burge was also Hernando's No. 1 finisher for the first time this season.

With her constant improvement in each race throughout the season, Burge has put herself as a contender to make some noise at the 2022 MHSAA 6A Cross Country Championships.

Both Morgan and Burge hit the MileSplit USA Second-Team Standard in the High School Girls 5K.

Finishing third was the small school star from French Camp, Lucy Littlejohn, running 20:09.

Littlejohn raced up in the large school race at this meet. The larger school's competition pushed Littlejohn to her second-best time this season and a top-three finish in a solid field.

Anna Caroline Crouch of Saltillo placed fourth, just a second ahead of Mooreville's Hannah Sanders. The two came in together just seconds behind Littlejohn.

Hernando placed two runners, Jessica Cartwright, and Kyleigh Carter, in sixth and seventh. Their No. 4 and 5 runners placed 11th and 13th, which gave them the edge they needed over Saltillo to win the meet.
