Mississippi High School Boys to Watch at Last Chance

Duos to Watch

Ethan Knight and Luke Johnson

Event: 1600m

Stats: State Leaders in the 3200m

The two Sub-16 5k runners and 9:40 indoor 3200m runners are back in action this weekend at Last Chance #2, slated to compete in the fast heat of the 1600m alongside teammate Matthew Singletary. After a video interview with the Oxford boys, Knight and Johnson said they didn't even feel like they were ready for something fast... and then both proceeded to run 9:40.41, #3 and #4 All-time in Mississippi state history. That's just downright scary. Well everyone knows that I never like to throw times up in the air, if Johnson, Knight, and Singletary get in there and race the field, they could be due for another big PR.

Jaheim Bridges and Taylor Brown

Event: 1600m

Stats: State Leaders in the 1600m

Another very strong distance running duo in MHSAA 6A and the two current unofficial state leaders in the 1600m, they are going to try and officially get that state leading time as they are two more heavy hitters entered in the 1600m. As I stated in a previous article, Bridges and Brown ran unattached at the Samford Open. Generally a college meet, they competed in the full mile, as well as the 800m, against a collegiate field. In the mile, they both ran a 1600m converted time of 4:34. While it isn't yet clear on what heat of the 1600m they will be in, they will be in Last Chance #3 which is probably the most contested one out of three invitationals, and can almost be guaranteed a fast race.

Jordan Anthony and Jeremiah Dillon

Event: 60m, 4x200m

Stats: State Leaders in 60m and 200m

Debatably one of the best short sprinting duos in the nation, some big headliners going into this meet are Tylertown High School's Jordan Anthony, the 2021 National Champion in the 100m dash, alongside Jeremiah Dillon. This will be the pair's third meet of the indoor circuit after they both had state-leading performances at the 2022 Elite Scholastic Meet representing XCEL Athletics - Anthony in the 60m and Dillon in the 200m. Anthony then went to the VA Showcase to improve upon his 60m and 200m times, running 6.77 in the 60m, currently ranked 4th in the nation, as well as 21.61 in the 200m which currently sits at 9th in the nation. The pair are looking to take the top two spots in the 60m this weekend as they are top two seeds, and I would also imagine that they will be a part of Tylertown's 4x200m as well. Expect something quick from this speedy duo at Last #3 on Saturday.
