The Saltillo High School boys were having a phenomenal cross country season, with all scoring five under 17 minutes in the 5K and ranked as the No. 3 team in all of Mississippi.

They carried that momentum to the 2022 MHSAA 5A Cross Country Championships, where they lived up to the hype to score 1-2-4-6-9-10-11 to earn the 2022 MHSAA 5A team title in dominant fashion.

Parker Shannon, a 16:03 5K runner and 4:36 miler, led the way for the Tigers, running the only sub-17 5K of the day in 16:49.1 to earn his first-ever MHSAA 5A title in his career.

After Shannon and 16:15 5K runner Jace Stanley made sure the first kilometer was at an honest pace, Shannon took off and never looked back, battling the heat and the clock for the remaining four kilometers.

Shannon showed his range this Cross Country season, as he is predominantly more of a middle distance runner on the track. We're not exactly sure what events he will go for next season, but has proved that adding to more gold medals in the 800m and 1600m is a very real possibility.

Fellow Tiger Enoch Caviness had his best race possible, securing the silver medal in 17:35.7. Evan Hallford, the freshman from Neshoba Central HS, finished a phenomenal third in 17:49.3.
