Mississippi Future Stars: Autry Foster

For any new readers, welcome to Mississippi Future Stars. In this series, we feature young runners who are making waves in Mississippi running. Whether they are breaking records or climbing the rankings, this series is the place where we get to showcase what our younger athletes have been doing and put them on the map!

Starting off our new round of Mississippi Future Stars, we have Autry Foster from Lewisburg High School. Autry is an eighth-grader who has taken the varsity route and hasn't looked back once. He competed in eight different races last cross-country season and ended his season with a personal best of 16:41 at the DeSoto County XC Championships. For Autry, this was an almost two-minute improvement from his time of 18:38 last year. To drop two minutes off your personal best is one thing, but to do it as an eighth-grader is nothing short of astonishing

Based on the current Milesplit rankings, Autry was Mississippi's fastest eighth-grader last cross-country season and holds the 4th fastest time ever by an eighth-grader in the state. Last track season he ran an impressive two-mile for his age, but I have no doubts that he will crush his old records this coming season. To give you perspective on what is to come, Autry's current 5k record has a faster average pace than his old two-mile record. I would not be surprised if he teeters on the edge of the 10-minute mark for the 3200m, maybe even breaking it at some point.

Only time will tell for this young star, so keep an eye out for Autry Foster as he continues to show up and show out this track season!
