Some might call it the 'Saltillo Sweep.'

Sweeping the individual and team titles, Saltillo High School showed up and showed out at the 2022 MHSAA 5A Cross Country Championships.

Senior captain Anna Caroline Crouch was running her last race ever, and she made sure it would be a good one. She did just that, leading wire-to-wire and stopping the clock in 20:59.8 in record-high temperatures during this time of year, earning her first-ever MHSAA 5A class title in her last-ever race.

The Lady Tigers crushed the rest of the field, placing their entire varsity seven inside of All-MHSAA 5A position, finishing in 1-4-5-7-8-11-13.

Landyn Rose McMillan, Sophia Crouch, Cella Kay Dye, and Maice Scates rounded out the scoring five and are also all returning next season.

"We did what we came here to do. Every year, we have a new up-and-coming squad ready to fill in alumni's shoes." Crouch commented on how running with such a deep squad positively affected her running career.

"When you run with such good runners every day, it can only push you forward to be the best runner you can be."

Maine Lund of Lafayette High School seemingly always shows up when it matters, as she placed runner-up in 21:22.7 and now finds herself as the top returner. Grace Brewer of East Central High School was another surprise finisher, finishing in third in 21:57.2.
