Roury McCloyen, a senior at St. Joseph Catholic School in Greenville, Miss., and debatably the best male thrower in Mississippi high school history, has signed to continue his throwing career at Mississippi State University in Starkville, Miss.
During the 2022 outdoor track and field season, McCloyen had quite an impressive campaign that resulted in going undefeated and multiple state and association records going down. McCloyen became the first Mississippi prep to throw 60+ in the Shot Put and 180+ feet in the Discus in the same season.
Championship season and beyond, McCloyen's resume is one to gaze upon, ranging from his multitude of victories at the MAIS Track and Field Championships. Additionally, he has competed at multiple post-season national championships, such as the USATF Junior Olympics, with a Shot Put national title in 2022 to his name.
He currently possesses the following PRs:
Discus: 189-2
Shot Put: 63-0
McCloyen will join a list of several Mississippians, such as 3200m state record holder Madison Jones, 2021, 2022 MHSAA 6A 800m Champion Mallory Streetman, and 2022 MHSAA 4A 800m Champion Curt Carman, among others.
