Meet Preview: HSB Events to Watch at Madison Central Classic

High School Boys Events to Watch

High School Boys 100m dash

Look out for the boys flying down the home stretch this weekend. The 100m Dash could be a race to remember.

Heading the top of the entries is Madison Central senior Ashton Smith who will be looking to stake claim to his home track.

He'll likely feel the heat from the Clinton High School pair in Omari Hampton and Kyler Hutton. Hampton is the #2 freshman in the country in the 60m dash from this past indoor season and Hutton is coming off of an all-conditions PR of 11.26 from the Clinton Season Opener. In that race, Hutton actually upset Smith and Hampton for the win.

Also, keep an eye on Pearl High School's Trent Mosley who boasts the fastest time of the season so far of 11.02 as well as Jadarrius Gordon who is one of the 400m favorites.

Expect an exhilarating race to the line to see who takes the 2022 Madison Central Track Classic 100m title and top spot in the state so far this season.

High School Boys 1600m run

Prepare for an epic race from start to finish in the boy's 1600m!

Some of the top milers in the state will be battling head to head for the fastest time in the state of Mississippi.

Miguel Bankston, a podium finisher at the MHSAA 6A state championship in the 800m, holds the fastest returning time in the state with a 4:31.6.

He will be closely rivaled by Noah Mason and Christian Parks, who both had top-notch indoor seasons hitting big PRs of 4:34.1 and 4:36.4, respectively.

Also keep in mind Tanner Moore of Pearl High School who had an impressive last 800m in his 1600m at the Pearl Track and Field Opener closing in 2:16 to take the win.

Right behind Moore in that race at the 2022 Pearl Track and Field Season Opener was his teammate Brendan Clark, another runner who could play a factor in this race.

But wait, there's more!! Watch out for the MHSAA 6A runner-up in the 800m, Dominic Turner, whose 800m speed could play a role in the 1600m. He just crushed the 5-minute mile barrier and will be looking to continue his good run of form into Saturday's meet.

Will we see the first sub-4:30 performance of the outdoor season? We'll have to wait and see in the 2022 Madison Central Jaguar Classic.

High School Boys Triple Jump

On the field events side, anticipate some impressive marks in the Triple Jump.

Pearl High School's Marcus Thompson has the leading jump in the state with a mark of 43-6 and will be looking to carry his momentum over to Madison. However, he will be hotly contested by his teammate Jerry Johnson who is an MHSAA 6A State Champion in the long jump and runner up in the triple jump.

Expect BJ Washington of Madison Central to fight for the top spot as well. He has an impressive PR of 44-0.25 and he along with Johnson are two of the top returners in the state.

There is no telling who will come out on top, but the triple jump is bound to be a nail-biting field event.
