Kennedi Sanders | Madison Ridgeland Academy | 60m and 400m
Starting us off in the MS#1 slide show is a name that we know well, and that is the sprints legend in the making, Kennedi Sanders. She has gone undefeated in the 400m, whilst also posting times in the 60m such as 7.56, currently #22 in the nation. Just recently, Sanders snagged two wins in the 60m and 400m at the 2022 Last Chance Invitational, running a time of 7.65 in the 60m, as well we a state record time of 55.56 in the 400m. That mark in the 400m currently ranks 11th in the nation. Although Sanders may still have some gas left in the tank for whatever meets she and her coach decide to run for nationals, she has certainly earned the right to sit atop the throne at the end of the Mississippi
Lenasia Drummond | Hattiesburg High School | 60mH, LJ, and TJ
Next up, and yet another state record holder, is Hattiesburg multi-discipline specialist Lenasia Drummond. Drummond certainly set herself up for a great outdoor season, hitting overall PR's in three different events - this means that she is already starting out 2022 more fit than her peak fitness in 2021... That is just scary! Lenasia is a busy bee when it comes to scoring points for the Lady Tigers, and it will be exciting to see what she has in store for us in the outdoor events this season.
Kaelyn Fair | Tupelo High School | 800m
Leading the state in the 800m at just an 8th grader and plays an important role on the young and talented Tupelo HS girl's distance crew, and that is Kaelyn Fair! Fair ran her state-leading time of 2:39 at the 2022 Last Chance Invitational. Fair does just about every event in the game, ranging from the 60m dash to the 5k cross country - She even placed 18th at the 2021 MHSAA 6A State Meet on the varsity level. Fair will already be coming into this outdoor season in really good shape and could be a key into a potential state-qualifying 4x800m relay team, as well as holding her own in the open 800m.
Brooklyn Biancamano | Long Beach High School | 1600m
No surprises here - In her lone race of the 2021-22 indoor season, Biancamano went 5:20 in the 1600m at the LSU HS Classic back in early January. Don't forget, this performance was done on a flat track - In the NCAA, her performance would convert to a 5:16 from flat track to banked. This outdoor season is Biancamano's last season in high school before she heads to the Lady Razorbacks, and there is no telling what she will have in store for us if she gets into some meets like RunningLane or Mobile Challenge of Champions.
Brookelyn Morgan | Tupelo High School | 3200m
Leading the state in the 16-lap event is the freshman phenom from Tupelo, Miss. and 2021 MHSAA 6A State Champion in the 3200m, and that is Tupelo High's Brookelyn Morgan. Morgan broke 12 minutes in the indoor 3200m in ___% of her races this season, as well as winning ___ of them. This puts her in a great spot to start the outdoor season to try to go and after more PR's in the Spring!
Meagan Womack | Clinton High School | Shot Put
The 3rd state record holder on this list, and is going into the outdoor season as the #1 ranked thrower in the state, is Meagan Womack. Womack became the first high school to ever break the 40 feet barrier in the indoor shot put on at the IceBreaker, putting down a mark of 40-1.25. Before Womack competed this year, the indoor SP record stood at - Womack then broke that on three different occasions this season. Her stellar season included two wins, as well as finishing top five in every meet that she competed in. There is no telling what bombs Womack will unleash on the outdoor Shot Put and Discus this season.
Aniya Madkin, Ana Moller - Clinton High School | Jayla Jones - Pearl High School | High Jump
As you can see, three athletes have set the bar in the 2022 Mississippi indoor track and season in the High Jump at 4 feet and 10 inches. Those three athletes are Aniya Madkin and Ana Moller of Clinton HS, and Jayla Jones of Pearl HS. 4-10 puts all three athletes right in the running to make it to the MHSAA 6A State Meet this season. If they can crack the 5-foot barrier like Moller and Madkin's teammate Eleanor Scott already has, and they could potentially be a lock for the state meet - Clinton putting three girls in the HJ would be huge for them to try and go for another state title. Madkin should have no problem getting to the state meet though, as she is the reigning state champion in the Triple Jump in MHSAA 6A.
Katelyn Hulsey | Northwest Rankin HS | Pole Vault
Vaulting at a very impressive height of 11 feet and 8 inches is the 2021 MHSAA 6A Runner-up in the Pole Vault from NW Rankin, Katelyn Hulsey! Hulsey vaulted 11-8 at the 2022 National Pole Vault Summit in Reno, Nev. where she finished 5th overall. Hulsey also jumped just a quarter-inch short of that at the 2022 LSU HS Classic. These two marks from the NW Rankin sophomore are #2 and #3 all-time in Mississippi high school girl's indoor history. Hulsey has obviously been putting the work in this winter, and expect her to after the state title this 2022 outdoor season.
