Top Returning JV Runners in the State

Rounding out our middle school spotlight for the girls is Charley Rose of Kirk Academy. Rose has not raced so far this season but has already proved herself in the MAIS 3A field.

During the 2020 cross country season, she claimed a personal best in the 5k with a 21:16 and then placed 3rd at the state meet later that season. She also finished within the top ten last year at 7th place.

During this past track season, she demonstrated her speed and made a big splash at the MAIS 3A state meet. She finished third and second in the 800m and 1600m, respectively, and scored personal best's in both races with times of 2:38 and 5:49. She also took home a fourth-place finish in the 3200m and had a personal best time of 13:18 for the season.

Another interesting fact is the Charley Rose is the little sister of both recent graduate Chase Rose and Morgan Claire Rose, both of which had stellar careers at Kirk Academy.

Rounding out our list, but certainly not least, is Denver Carter of Simpson Academy. Carter is currently undefeated this season and has recently collected a new personal best in the 2 Mile of 11:45 at the Cathedral Twilight. Not only did he win, but he beat the next best runner in the field by over a minute.

In the 5k, Carter has a personal best of 18:42 from 7th grade, but he did not compete at the MAIS 4A state meet that year. In previous years, Carter has placed 9th (2019) and 12th (2018).

This last track season, Denver demonstrated that he could very well compete in multiple events, and he did so, competing in the 800m, high, long, and triple jump.
