Brown showed the entire state that his 8th-grade season was no fluke, and opened up his season in a big way with a 16:14 5k win on his home course, 36 seconds ahead of the next competitor. That's about a 40-second improvement on where he was at this race last year... and he essentially soloed it this time. It was hard not to move Brown up a spot or 2, but if he keeps his momentum going from the season opener, Brown will surely be climbing up the ranks as the season goes on.
