It has been a pleasure to watch this young man develop as a runner over the years. Keep up the good work Jacob. Hey quit worrying about your stop watch at the finish line they will get the official time. That will slow you down. LOL

Name: Jacob Britt

School: Brookhaven High School

Q: What does your training look like right now given the current situation?

A: Since the outbreak of COVID-19 my training has been the same intensity and higher mileage because of my extended time. For example last Saturday I ran 20 miles for the first time in my life and let me just say it was an experience haha.

Q: What are you doing to stay busy other than run right now

A: Doing yard work at my house and my grandmother's house.

Q: What was your most memorable race/moment?

A: My most memorable race was my team and I winning XC State 2019. Best feeling in the world to be state champs.

Q: What was the funniest thing that happened during your running career?

A: I would say the funniest thing that has happened in my high school career would have to be the time I rolled down one of the gravel hills in the middle of a race at choctaw trails.

Q: Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?

A: My biggest competition over my 4 years in high school is Grayson Childress. He pushed me to my breaking point in every race XC race in 2018 and he motivated me to get faster.

Q: What was your greatest accomplishment?

A: My greatest accomplishment was winning the 3200 last year in track.

Q: If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?

A: I would definitely change taking training seriously earlier on in my years.

Q: What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

A: The most difficult obstacle I had to overcome was an Achilles strain at the end of my senior XC season.

Q: What will you miss the most?

A: I will miss training with my friends everyday and seeing my Coach.

Q: What advice would you give to younger athletes?

A: Some good advice I would give to younger athletes is it's better to learn how to hurt in a race now. It won't get any easier the older you get and once you learn you'll be so much better.

Q: What kind of an impact has your coach had on you and your team?

A: My Coach is like a second dad to me he has taught me everything I know about running and a lot about life. He has changed my life and I give him all the credit for my ability. My coach also turned an XC program that was failing into the best team in the state in less than 10 years.

Q: What are your college plans?

A: I am going to be attending Mississippi College in the fall and running XC and track.

Q: Who would you like to say 'thank you' to?

A: I would like to say thank you to my parents, grandparents, friends, and coaches for always believing in me.

Q: Is there anything else you'd like to add?

A: Never take high school for granted. If you are younger and reading this I'm sure you hear this so much. I heard it all the time and I would love to say I listened to it but at this time in my life I don't think I did. I'm missing my last year of track, my last year of high school, and a whole lot of more lasts that I won't get back. So please don't take anything for granted you'll definitely regret it.
