Kate Mattox, Starkville has dominated distance running in the MHSAA ever since her 7th grade year. She has won 19 State Championship titles and this state meet capped those off. First up was the 3200 meter run where she set the pace from the start leading all the way to a 11:36.17 win. Later during the running events Kate started the 1600 Meters the same way leading from start to finish in 5:20.07. The 800 meter run was supposed to be her toughest race but an injury to Kai Horne, Meridian allowed her to again lead the way with a 2:18.10. All in all a great way for a great athlete to end her career.
