Talk of the Town: Galleria Games Brings the Heat

Wright 60m / 200m Double:

Charleston's Amia Wright is making waves in the indoor track and field scene with her remarkable double performance. She blazed through the 60m dash in 7.85 seconds and conquered the 200m dash in 26.08 seconds, both of which are indoor lifetime bests. What's more, she now leads the state of Mississippi in the 200m dash, setting the stage for an electrifying 2024 track and field season. Amia Wright's impressive start is a testament to her offseason dedication, and she's undoubtedly a name to watch.

Tylertown Sprints / Jumps Crew:

Tylertown's sprint and jumps crew, often referred to as the "special forces," is already making a significant impact in the 2024 indoor circuit. The trio of Avery Abram Jr., Jourdan Clements, and Jamarcus Garrett showcased their prowess in their second indoor outing. Garrett currently leads the state in the 200m, Clements is the one to beat in the 60m hurdles, and Abram Jr. reigns supreme in the High Jump and Triple Jump. With their collective strength, it's not a stretch to envision these three studs contributing to at least half of Tylertown's points, potentially leading the way to another MHSAA 3A title. When Tylertown competes, you know excellence is on display.

Columbia Academy Sub 10 4x800m:

The Columbia Academy Lady Cougars are making a statement early in the 2023-24 indoor circuit. Coming off a No. 5 state ranking in the 2023 Cross Country season, they unleashed their middle-distance aces Briley Speights and Macy Robertson at the 2023 Galleria Games in Birmingham, Ala. Speights clocked an impressive 2:32.7, while Robertson wasn't far behind at 2:34.0 in the 800m event. These times, achieved in December, are nothing short of spectacular, hinting at the potential for a sub-10 4x800m relay team come championship season. With their top 5 Cross Country ranking, the Lady Cougars have the depth, and as the season unfolds, they're bound to get even faster. Columbia Academy is poised for an exciting indoor season with their middle-distance firepower.
