Future Stars: Madison Ridgeland Academy's Riz McBride

This week's edition of 'Future Stars' spotlights Riz McBride of Madison Ridgeland Academy!

McBride is a sixth-grader who specializes in the 800-meter run. Not only is she currently the fastest sixth-grade girl in the state this season in the event, but her PR of 2:31.08, set at the 2022 MRA Quad Meet on March 29, is a sixth-grade 800m state record, according to our records. She is also currently ranked fourth in the nation among sixth-graders in the 800m.

While the 800m appears to be her specialty in track, McBride is coming off of a successful debut cross country season. She won the three middle school races she competed in and helped her team to a MAIS 6A state championship victory at the 2021 MAIS Overall XC Meet.

McBride's performances this outdoor season are a promising start to her career, and she's established herself as an athlete to watch moving forward.
