Early Season Cross Country Team Rankings

High School Girls

Moving over to the girl's side, the stacked Jackson Preparatory School ladies squad is the early leader, who exactly like the Brookhaven boys, have 5 of the top 11 times in the state currently from the harder course on their home turf at Jackson Prep. They are the only girl's squad to have a top 5 average of under 22 minutes, which is a 21:31. This upcoming Saturday, they will be running at the fast and flat Memphis Twilight, so expect that team average to go way down. We also have some strong teams that have yet to open up their season that will tonight at TCPS or this weekend across the South - a good example would be the Saltillo High School girls at TCPS tonight, and Ocean Springs at George County. Coming in at an impressive 2nd is Corinth High School, ahead of MHSAA 6A notables Tupelo and Hernando. Corinth is the defending MHSAA 4A State Champions and opened up with a strong 2nd place finish at Florence, AL last weekend. The basic reason they are ahead of those 6A powerhouses is because of their strong 5th runner in Lexi Faulkner. As the old saying goes, "A team is only as strong as their 5th runner".
