In this week's MileSplit Mississippi 'Senior Sendoff,' we highlight Daylon Lett, a remarkable 400-meter specialist from D'Iberville High School. Lett will be taking his talents to Coahoma Community College in the Fall.
Throughout his season, Lett demonstrated remarkable improvement, dropping a full 2.1 seconds in the 400-meter dash, achieving a lifetime best of 50.21 seconds. His hard work and dedication earned him a spot at the 2023 MHSAA 6A Track and Field Championships, where he competed in the 400m and finished sixth overall.
At Coahoma, Lett will pursue a degree in psychology. Psychology is the study of human behavior and mental processes. Graduates in this field can pursue various careers, including counseling, social work, human resources, research, and higher education.
Daylon Lett had an outstanding season, securing four victories in the 400m. With his impressive performances and determination, he is poised to continue his momentum at Coahoma Community College.

Q: Explain your 'track and field journey'... (How did you get into running, how did your senior season go, and how did you get connected with the college that you are going to?)
A: Had a great season - As my first year fully running, I made it all the way to state in the 400m and 4x200m, and also connected with my college through my coach.
Q: What is your most memorable meet/race and why?
A: George County, because that's when I set my season best of running 50.40
Q: Out of all your high school achievements, which one means the most to you and why?
A: Making it to state, because it was my first year running track.
Q: If you could go back and do it all over again, what would you change, if anything?
A: Make more memories with my teammates and putting in more work.
Q: Who is somebody that you look up to/someone that helped you along your journey to get you where you are today?
A: My pops, Mr.Wells, and my coach.
Q: What will you miss the most?
A: My teammates.
Q: What piece of advice would you give to the younger athletes that are just getting started on their journey?
A: Don't give up and always finish through and fight to the end!
