Charve Gibson: Shattering Barriers & Records in Mississippi

FAYETTE, Miss. ---  Charve Gibson , a remarkable middle schooler at Jefferson County HS, has been making waves in the world of track and field. With her exceptional talent and unparalleled drive, Charvè has not only set records but also shattered gender and age-related barriers, becoming a trailblazer in her community.

At just an eighth-grader, Charve has achieved feats that many athletes can only dream of. Her recent performances at the District, Regional, and South State levels have cemented her status as a standout competitor. Notably, she became the first female athlete in Jefferson County history to secure first place in four events across these three prestigious competitions.

"At the age of seven, my parents took me to Vicksburg, MS in the middle of Mississippi Heat Track Club's summer season to start practice. My very first meet, I won MVP for my age group and first place in the 100m, 200m and 400m with ease," says Charve. "I was surprised but in love with track and field from that very moment."

But Charve's accomplishments don't end there. In a groundbreaking achievement, this tenacious middle schooler went on to claim the title of high school state champion, making her the first ever middle schooler in Jefferson County to achieve such an extraordinary feat. Her triumph showcases not only her immense talent but also her ability to excel beyond the limitations of her age.

Furthermore, Charve's indomitable spirit led her to capture an astonishing six medals at the high school state meets. Her medal haul includes two golds, two silvers, and two bronze medals, demonstrating her remarkable versatility and prowess across multiple events. This remarkable achievement sets her apart from any other middle schooler in the history of Mississippi track and field.

"Competing against high school athletes as a middle schooler has always been difficult because they are usually stronger and more experienced. I feel it has also made me a better athlete," Charve reflects. "There are many schools that inquire about me ,but I really want to make a difference in my hometown. I am just realizing that I have made history of being the first of many accomplishments in Jefferson County Track and Field and in Mississippi. I'm excited, blessed, and grateful for these opportunities.

I aspire to be the first person from Fayette, MS to make it to the Olympics. I have goals of attending a D1 college on a full scholarship with the hope of receiving an NIL Deal. I plan to train harder and get stronger so I can reach my goals."
