Future Stars: Clinton's Kamiah Mounger

In this week's edition of MileSplit Mississippi Future Stars, we focus our attention on Clinton High School's Kamiah Mounger, a 7th-grade long sprinter who has been drawing eyes in Mississippi while on the track. 

Since exploding onto the scene, Mounger has taken the Mississippi Track and Field world by storm. Her incredible performances have caught the attention of coaches and competitors alike, and have also placed her on a national stage. With a lifetime best of 59.82 in the 400m dash, Mounger is one of the nation's best 7th-grade long sprinters, and also leads Mississippi 7th-grade girls in the event

Mounger's impressive achievements span across the track. This young athlete demonstrated great prowess in the 400m this season. At the 2023 MHSAA Division 4-6A & 3-5A meet, Mounger finished in a remarkable first place with a new lifetime best, clocking a stellar 400m time of 59.82. She has also shown her versatility in the 200m, with a lifetime best of 27.08 from this season leaving her ranked among the top 7th-grade girls in Mississippi. 

Kamiah Mounger's impressive rise shines a huge light on the promising future of Track and Field in Mississippi. As more athletes like Mounger emerge on the scene and raise the bar, Mississippi Track and Field will continue to slowly, but surely, be put on the map.
