Future Stars: Corinth's Silvestre Lopez

In this week's edition of MileSplit Mississippi Future Stars, we turn our attention to Corinth High School's Silvestre Lopez, a 7th-grade middle distance runner who has been making noise in Mississippi, both on the track and in Cross Country. 

Since bursting onto the scene, Lopez has taken the Mississippi Track and Field world by storm. His outstanding performances have not only caught the attention of coaches and competitors but have also placed him on a national stage. With a lifetime best of 2:19 in the 800m event, Lopez is one of the nation's fastest 7th-grade middle distance runners, and also leads Mississippi 7th-grade boys in the event.

Lopez's impressive achievements do not end on the track. The young athlete has also demonstrated exceptional prowess on the cross country course. At the 2023 MHSAA Middle School Classic, Lopez finished in a remarkable 4th place, clocking a blazing 3K time of 10:50. 

Silvestre Lopez's meteoric rise is a testament to the promising future of Track and Field in Mississippi. As more athletes like Lopez emerge and raise the bar, Mississippi Track and Field will is slowly, but surely, being put on the map.
