As the Mississippi High School Track and Field season heats up, several events are set to take place over the week ahead. Here's a preview of what to expect from some of the upcoming meets, brought to you by MileSplit Mississippi.
Northwest Rankin Field and Distance Invitational
The Pole Vaulters will be in full force at the Northwest Rankin Field and Distance Invitational.
Two MHSAA 6A champions, John Scott Kendricks and Katelyn Hulsey, will be looking to set the bar high in the event.
Other key performers include Madison Central's Julian Winters, who is currently the leader in the Shot Put, as well as MHSAA 2A High Jump Champion Cheyenne Warrington of Puckett.
Wildcat Relays
Meridian High School will be hosting the Wildcat Relays, where we'll see top performers like Jeffrey Gathright, Daniel Hill, Mailia Scott, Serenity Reed, and Brianna Brown take their home track.
Caledonia's Emma Ruffin and Alexis Wilburn will also be in attendance, and could potentially skate up the Wildcat Relays.
Winona High School Field and Distance Meet
Reigning MHSAA 1A Cross Country Champion Lucy Littlejohn of French Camp will make her 2023 Outdoor Track and Field season debut at the Winona High School Field and Distance Meet, looking to potentially make a dent in the Mississippi High School Girls distance rankings.

Also look for Columbus High's Cierra Crusoe to sweep the throws, and we will also see quite the battle in the Varsity Boys High Jump and Triple Jump. Columbus High's Khristan Watson leads the way in the High Jump, while Choctaw County's Caleb Cunningham holds the No. 1 seed in the Triple Jump. Watson looks to be coming back to take over the 100-meter hurdles at the Winona Sprints and Relays Meet.
Petal Invitational
Columbia stars Charlee Brees Franks, Devron Cloyd, Omarion Fortenberry, and Katie Gates will lead the entries at the Petal Invitational.
But, also keep an eye out for hometown hero Ireland Jones, a 5:37 miler, in the Varsity Girls 1600m run.
PCS Invitational
We will see some MSAIS action in Hattiesburg, as private school stars Christopher Atkinson of Park Place Christian, PCS's Liv Jordan in the short sprints, and St. Aloysius's Samantha Edwards and Hendrix Eldridge will compete in the distance events at the PCS Invitational.

Brookhaven Speed Trials
Kewan Miner, the reigning MHSAA 1A 400m Champion, will make his season debut at the Brookhaven Speed Trials.
Also keep an eye out for middle school sensation Charve Gibson of Jefferson Davis County across multiple events, and McComb's Sa'Riah Magee in the short sprints.
Hurricane Meet
Jaden Talbot of Hancock is coming off a 13-3 in Pole Vault and leads the way in that event in the High School Boys competition at the Hurricane Meet, hosted by West Harrison High School.
MHSAA 5A Triple Jump Bronze Medalist Kamden Medlen of Vancleave is the heavy favorite in that event, and Gautier's Chloe Aultman looks to be in shape for a 400-meter lifetime best after her season's best of 1:00.07 at the Goula Invitational.
Lastly, Saint Martin's Teairra Lee is the No. 1 seed in the Varsity Girls High Jump with a mark of 5-2.
JPS High School Meet No. 1
Short Sprints specialists Tyler Arrington of Wingfield and Adria Burrell of Warren Central, as well as High Jump specialist Jonathan Henderson of Warren Central, highlight the entries at the JPS High School Meet 1.
Overall, it promises to be an exciting week of high school track and field in Mississippi, with many talented athletes across multiple events ready to compete and make a statement.
