This week's edition of MileSplit Mississippi Future Stars features Grace Hoeniges of Northwest Rankin High School!
Hoeniges, an eighth-grader at Northwest Rankin, has proven herself to be a force to be reckoned with in the world of Mississippi Cross Country. With lifetime bests of 11:56 in the 3K and 20:15 in the 5K on grass, Hoeniges has already established herself as a top junior high runner in the Mississippi.

The 2022 Cross Country season was a breakout year for Hoeniges, as she had a string of impressive performances. At the MHSAA Middle School Classic, a highly competitive event for junior high runners, Hoeniges placed fourth, showcasing her ability to compete against some of the best runners in the state. She also took home the top spot at the Fleet Feet Invitational, further solidifying her status as a top junior high competitor.

Hoeniges' success didn't stop there, as she made a significant impact on the high school distance running scene at the MHSAA 6A level. She placed ninth at the MHSAA 6A Cross Country Championships, and just three days later, she placed ninth at the All-Mississippi Cross Country Championships, which showcases her ability to compete against the best runners from all classifications.
Her performances at the MHSAA 6A level, where the competition is the most fierce in the state, and the All-Mississippi Cross Country Championships, are a sign that she is one of the top runners in Mississippi, regardless of class.
With her natural talent and hard work, Hoeniges is sure to have a bright future in the sport of distance running.
