This week's edition of MileSplit Mississippi's Future Stars highlights Brookhaven High School's Cooper Wallace!

Wallace is an eighth-grade distance runner who has excelled at the junior high and varsity levels in MHSAA 5A. He has a lifetime best in the 3K of 10:20.9, which equates to 5:35 per mile for nearly two miles on the grass and hills of Choctaw Trails.

RESULTS: Watson Cross Country Classic - JH Boys 3K

Just three days after running his lifetime best in the 3K, Wallace returned to Choctaw Trails to take Medium School Boys title at the 2022 MHSAA Middle School Classic. He also led his team to a 34-point victory over West Lauderdale Middle School, among others. In that race, the Brookhaven, Miss. native broke the tape in a time of 10:33.2, his second-fastest time and third win of the 2022 Cross Country season. 

Lastly, at the 2022 MHSAA 5A Cross Country Championships, Wallace finished in 12th place overall, garnering an All-MHSAA 5A finish. He was the top finisher for Brookhaven High School, as well as the top 8th-grader in the event. 

Wallace is already a well-accomplished distance runner and has momentum on his side heading into the 2023 Mississippi Track and Field season.
