Meet Recap: 2022 MAIS Cross Country Championships

Honorable Mentions

MAIS 2A Boys

An Honorable mention for the best individual race was the 2022 MAIS 2A Championship race between Dallas Stricker and the Bryan Brothers (Tristan Bryan and Samuel Bryan).

This is the fastest that this class has ever been by far, and it's all thanks to the three above-mentioned runners. They gave the crowd a great race, especially for such a small classification, and all three would have won multiple other classifications.

Stricker won the day in 16:52.3 after making multiple surges after the 2K mark. It was the eighth MAIS title of his career.

Layla Warren

An impressive individual performance came from the MAIS 5A Girls Championship race, and that was Simpson Academy's Layla Warren

Warren, the All-MileSplit Mississippi No. 6 High School Girl, also could have been considered for the biggest upset. She is definitely very talented and capable of some fantastic performances on the grass, but it was potentially looking as if Simpson's Lilly Overby, an 18:51 5K runner, would take the cake for the MAIS 5A Girls Individual title.

With two kilometers to go, Warren made her move to go for her first-ever state title on grass, and it paid off. The Simpson freshman won in a 19:55.8, the second-fastest time of the day.

Overby finished runner-up in 20:41.8.

Stratton Terrell

One major upset was the eighth-grader from Tri County Academy, Stratton Terrell, took the 2022 MAIS 4A Boys Cross County title.

In one of the more dominant performances of the day, Terrell made a big move at the halfway mark. That move turned into a one-minute-and-56-second win, snagging the first-ever state title of his career.

Lindsey Hogue

One final honorable mention for the best individual performance was Benton Academy's Lindsey Hogue winning her sixth MAIS title.

Hogue won the race by two minutes and 29 seconds and ran 10 seconds faster than what she ran at the 2022 Watson Cross Country Classic.
