Cartwright won with her fastest time this season, stopping the clock in a 5K time of 19:16.1. She tied her previous time in the 2022 Watson High School Cross Country Classic.
Burge was right behind in a 5K performance of 19:27.8, and the Lady Tigers won with a score of 21, 29 points ahead of the next county competitor.
Although the majority of this race was on the roads, it is good to see that Hernando is winding up for a promising championship run at the 2022 MHSAA 6A Cross Country Championships.
Varsity Boys 5k
What happened in the Varsity Girls 5K was the same story in the Varsity Boys 5K, as the top two runners from DeSoto Central High School led their team to the win. Kaleb Tackett and Gavin Brown helped pull them along to a comfortable victory against Hernando, largely thanks to their 1-2 finish.

Tackett had a convincing victory in a 5K time of 16:58.4, while Brown fought it out till the line with Jackson Dickerson from Lewisburg HS, who had an outstanding race in his own right. The Desoto Central junior won the battle, 17:15.8 to Dickerson's 17:16.7.
Desoto Central won the meet with a score of 33 over Hernando High School and provides them with all the momentum they need heading into the Mississippi Cross Country championship season.
