* Emma Raines securing the win for East Rankin at the 2022 Ocean Springs Invitational
For this week's Milesplit Mississippi Future Stars, we are featuring Emma Raines of East Rankin Academy!
In just her second cross country season, Raines is playing an integral part in the success of East Rankin Academy. The team is coming off an exciting win at the 2022 Ocean Springs invitational. Raines placed seventh in the varsity race as just a seventh grader.
Her time this past weekend of 21:22 ranks her as the fastest seventh-grade girl in Mississippi. This statistic is more impressive than it seems, as she is over a minute ahead of second place and is the only seventh-grader in the state that has gone under 22 minutes in the 5K.
RANKINGS: 2022 Mississippi 7th-grade girls 5K List
Raines started the season with a win in the Girls JV Race at the 2022 Early Bird 2 Miler. This was the first of many early-season races for Raines.
At the 2022 Park Place Christian Academy Invitational, Raines finished fifth overall. This was her first time breaking 22 minutes in the 5k, a huge statement coming from a seventh grader.
After yet another PR of 21:22 at the at the 2022 Ocean Springs Invitational this past weekend, Emma Raines has momentum on her side going into the rest of the 2022 cross country season.
