Leading the entry list from 5K times in the 2022 XC season is Brookelyn Morgan of Tupelo High School.
RANKINGS: Mississippi High School Girls 2022 5K List
She is All-Milesplit No. 2 and is progressing well into the season. In her most recent performance, she ran 20:18 for the win at the 2022 TCPS Twilight, and she will look to maintain her momentum into Saturday.
Brookelyn Morgan, Tupelo High School
Another top athlete with the potential to throw down some crazy performances is the Hernando High School senior sensation, Jessica Cartwright.
Sitting at the All-Milesplit No.1, she is undefeated and will look to add to her successful start to her season at Saltillo. Look for her to work with her teammate Kaitlyn Burge, who has recently PR'd with a time of 20:20.
Lastly, coming in with the second and third fastest seed times in the entry list is Mooreville's Hannah Sanders and Saltillo's Anna Caroline Crouch.
They were far and away the top two at the 2022 Mooreville XC Invitational and will look to mix it up with some of the best in the state.
State Editor's pick: Wow... this is a stacked High School Girls' field. Nearly every elite runner in Northern Mississippi will be toeing the line Saturday morning in Saltillo, Miss.
Jessica Cartwright and Kaitlyn Burge are, quite possibly, the best duo in Mississippi. On paper, they are, and they have also proven that they are in their performances this year.
However, Brookelyn Morgan is always a force to be reckoned with in any cross-country race, and that won't change on Saturday.
This race is the first time these three have met this year, and we are thrilled to see what kind of fireworks come out of this one.
With that being said, this is where Cartwright had her breakout race one year ago. The fact that she could potentially have a teammate working with her at this year's Saltillo XC Invitational makes us think she will do the same again this year.
Morgan and Burge are some major wildcards, but Cartwright has performed under the spotlight countless times, and it's hard to go against her... So we're not. Cartwright for the win.
