Casey Haddox-Harvey (Columbia Academy)

Someone who has been on fire in the early 2022 cross country season is Columbia Academy's finest miler, Casey Haddox-Harvey.

Haddox-Harvey is recently coming off of a win at the 2022 Cathedral Twilight XC Meet, beating out multiple MAIS 5A talents.

A 4:49 miler, Haddox-Harvey popped up on the MAIS distance running scene when he earned a bronze medal at the 2022 MAIS 5A Track and Field Championships, and simply hasn't slowed down his momentum since.

According to the 2022 Columbia Academy cross country schedule, Haddox-Harvey's first 5K of the season will be in New Haven, Mo. at the 2022 New Haven Invitational, and could be due for yet another PR.

Kaitlyn Burge (Hernando High School)

Although we don't have any previous seasons to compare, we thank Kaitlyn Burge of Hernando High School is a star in the making.

Burge just recently opened up her season at the 2022 South Panola XC Classic with a 21:X, placing second to All-MileSplit Mississippi No. 1 and teammate Jessica Cartwright.

RESULTS: 2022 South Panola XC Classic

Burge also helped Hernando secure the team win.

All in all, Burge is looking to play an integral role in the team success of Hernando, and we can't wait to see what the sport does for her in the near future.

Gavin Brown (Desoto Central High School)

Recently coming off of his first ever win in his career, Desoto Central junior Gavin Brown is one to look out for this 2022 cross country season.

Brown ran a PR of 4:49 in the 1600m at the 2022 MHSAA 1-6A Championships, as well as a PR of 17:22 in the 5K in cross country at the 2021 Watson High School Meet.

He recently opened up his season with a win at the 2022 South Panola XC Classic, taking down multiple MHSAA 6A talents in sloppy conditions.

Look out for both Brown and Kaleb Tackett, also from Desoto Central, as their stock is shooting up just in time for the 2022 cross country season.

Lilly Overby (Simpson Academy)

A freshman phenom that has been running outstanding recently is Lilly Overby of Simpson Academy

Overby opened up her season at the 2022 Early Bird 2-miler with a time of 12:28, the third fastest 2-mile ever at that course.

COURSE RECORDS: High School Girls Neely Farms 2-mile

In that race, she placed third to Layla Warren and Ella Rankin, who are both currently on the All-MileSplit Mississippi XC Team.

RESULTS: 2022 Early Bird 2-miler

Overby is also coming off of an unofficial win at the 2022 Cathedral Twilight XC Meet, winning the race as an unattached competitor.

We think Simpson teammate Layla Warren could dip into the 18's for 5K this year, and there is a high chance that Overby could be right with her by the end of the season.
