This week's edition of 'Future Stars' highlights Jamarcus Garrett of Tylertown High School!

Garrett is an eighth-grade sprinter who excels at the 400-meter dash. Garrett earned a fourth-place finish in the event at the 2022 MHSAA 3A Track and Field State Championships. His PR of 51.67, set at the 2022 MHSAA 3A South State Championships on April 22, ranks him as Mississippi's fastest eighth-grader in the 400m this season.

As a seventh-grader, Garrett raced the 100m and 200m, competing in the 2021 USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships in both events last summer. His 200m season-best of 24.87 from that competition was the third-fastest seventh-grade time in the event that season.

Along with moving up to the 400m, Garrett has also significantly improved his 100m and 200m times this season. He finished first or second in all of his junior high races and ended the season with PRs of 11.60 in the 100m and 23.22 in the 200m. That 200m mark is the third-fastest eighth-grade time this season.

With significant improvements and noteworthy performances this season, Garrett shows great potential in the sprint events, and we look forward to seeing what he continues to achieve moving into high school!
