Future Stars: East Rankin Academy's Emily Williams

LAST WEEK: Amite County's Kewan Miner

----

This week's edition of 'Future Stars' spotlights Emily Williams of East Rankin Academy!

Williams is a versatile eighth-grade runner who has competed in everything from the 100m to the 3200m this season. She found her sweet spot in the 400m, in which she finished second at the 2022 MAIS Overall Track and Field State Championships in the 5A division.

With her PR of 1:01.64, set at the state meet, Williams finished the season as the second-fastest eighth-grade girl in the 400m.

While she focused on sprints this season, in previous years Williams stuck mainly to the distance events.

In the 2021 cross country season, she finished third in the 5A division at the MAIS Overall XC Meet and later set a 5k PR of 20:30.93 at the 2021 Mississippi XC All-State Meet of Champions. The mark improved on her seventh-grade season-best by nearly two minutes.

Williams also set substantial PRs in the 800m, 1600m, and 3200m this outdoor season.

It's clear that Williams has great potential in a range of events, performing well in distance and middle distance events. It will certainly be exciting to see what she achieves in the seasons to come!
