Future Stars: Tupelo High School's Taylor Brown

In this week's edition of 'Future Stars,' we highlight Taylor Brown of Tupelo High School!

Brown is a freshman specializing in the distance events, and he has already set a number of impressive marks over the past few years. Brown currently holds the 7th-grade state records in the 1600-meter run and the cross country 5k, the 8th-grade state records in the 3200-meter run and the 5k, and the 9th-grade state record in the 5k.

In the 2021 outdoor season, Brown was the fastest 8th grader in all three distance events, with marks of 2:10 in the 800m, 4:49 in the 1600m, and 9:56 in the 3200m. He went on to a successful freshman cross country season, finishing third in a loaded field at the 2021 MHSAA 6A Cross Country State Championship with a blistering PR of 16:06, which he dropped to a 16:04 at the 2021 Garmin RunningLane Cross Country Championships a few weeks later.

Moving into track season, Brown competed in two indoor meets, lowering his 1600m PR each time, and finished the indoor season ranked second in the state. His mark of 4:31, set at the 2022 Last Chance Invitational on Jan. 29, is not only a 9th-grade state record for the indoor 1600m but would also break the 9th-grade outdoor record for the same event.

With this promising start, Brown appears poised to break more records this outdoor season. He'll certainly be an athlete to watch moving forward this season and in the coming years as well.
