Desire Robinson - Gautier High School

Starting us off is Desire Robinson of Gautier!

The MHSAA 5A 200m runner-up will be running her signature event along with running a leg in both the 4x100 and 4x200. Last year at this same, Robinson ran the 200m and took home the gold with a time of 26.4.

Will she be able to repeat this performance, and maybe even improve upon it to potentially top the rankings in the 200m? I'm confident that she'll put on a good race as she is very consistent, so we'll have to see.

Gracyn Yelverton - Biloxi High School

Next is Gracyn Yelverton who will be running the 100m, 200m, and 400m races!

Very well known for her state champion title in MHSAA 6A 400m, she has been on a roll her senior year. Another athlete who competed and won this event last year, Yelverton has already started this year off faster than her previous thanks to her performance of 59.08 at Last Chance #3.

With that being said, it's fair to say she'll turn some heads again at the 2022 Gaston Hewes Relays.

Mallory Streetman - Gulfport High School

Opting for the longer distance than the last two, Mallory Streetman will be racing her specialty event, the 800m!

The Mississippi State commit will open her senior season at this meet. The MHSAA 6A 800m Champion had a strong Cross Country season to build her up and keep her racing instincts sharp. All this in the midst of qualifying and competing in the AAU championships. In the qualifier meet, Streetman bested her time from the state meet by running 2:20.61 to qualify for the Championship event in August.

This is a lot of momentum to bring into her last high school track season, so let's see where this takes her.

Shaneal Corpuz - Biloxi High School

The High School Girls thrower athlete to watch out for at the 2022 Gaston Hewes Relays is without a doubt Shaneal Corpuz of Biloxi.

The MHSAA 6A Shot Put Champion is going into the year with a strong start by beating her first marks in both Shot Put and Discus from last year. Speaking of last year, her second and fourth place finishes at this same meet will definitely be crushed by her this year.

The main question will be how much she destroys that this year.

Ocean Springs Cross Country Team

These four girls come together as four of the seven girls who dominated the MHSAA 6A Cross Country State Championships with one of the best team performances in Mississippi history - Definitely in the last decade.

Starting off is Sarah Litton who finished 4th at the State meet and she'll be running the 1600m and 800m. Along with her in the 1600m is Addison Rainey who scored 8th at the State Meet.

The other two entries from the top five are Michelle Brown (6th) and Ashton Rainey(7th). The sophomore and junior will both be running the 3200m.

Brown and Litton are the only two who have run this past indoor season. They both ran the 1600m at the LSU High School Indoor and finished in 6:20.31 and 5:39.38 respectively.

Can these girls start off the outdoor year with dominant performances along with the rest of their Cross team who have yet to appear? I believe they could surprise everyone... even themselves.
