TCPS Twilight Preview: September 2, 2021

Moving on over the High School Boy's side, it is basically just as stacked as the girl's race. The #1 seed is none other than MHSAA 4A favorite and MileSplit Mississippi All-State watch list Cooper Parmer from Pontotoc High School. Parmer comes in with a 16:37 5k PR that he hit at his state meet, and is coming off of a 4:42 / 10:19 1600m / 3200m double PR at his state meet back in May. Tonight, we will get to see how hard he worked over the summer to carry that fitness over from the outdoor season. Parmer is a very consistent performer, and knows what it's like to win on this course - he is actually the defending champion from this meet last year. It will not entirely be a cakewalk for the Pontotoc stud, though, as the strong Saltillo crew will be joining him tonight. Seeded not far behind Parmer is Saltillo's low stick, Rustin Roberts. Robert's PR is a 16:43 from Saltillo and is the MHSAA 5A North Half 3200m Champion. Behind them, you also have 4:48 1600m runner Lukas Dykes, who is another strong MHSAA 4A runner, 1:59 800m man Curt Carman, and definitely do not forget about the boys from Starkville High School. Rhett Schimpf is the #3 seed heading into this meet, I would not at all be surprised if Jones, Bell, and Smith finished higher up than they are seeded - they could maybe even sneak in and win the whole thing. The huge favorite to do that on paper, though, would be Saltillo High School

Much like the girl's races these races are going to be awesome to watch! MileSplit Mississippi employees will be their on-site to provide race coverage, so if you are not able to attend these races tonight, don't worry - We got you covered! If you are fortunate enough to go out to Belden tonight though, make sure you cheer loud and proud for these highly anticipated races tonight!
