BREAKING: Olympian Sam Kendricks Tests Positive for Covid

Sam Kendricks, Oxford High School

Sam Kendricks, the 2019 World Champion in the Pole Vault, has tested positive for COVID-19, and will not be competing at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. He was picked as one of the heavy favorites for the gold medal.

According to NBC News, the first word that Kendricks first tested positive was reported by Sam's father and co-coach on Instagram, Scott Kendricks.

"Today in Tokyo, officials informed Sam that his daily test for Cov 19 was positive, So he is out of the competition," Scott wrote on Instagram. "He feels fine and has no symptoms. Love you son. See you soon. #rancho_olympia #polevaulting"

The Mississippi MileSplit community is of course incredibly saddened to hear this news, but still extremely proud for all of the accomplishments he has done up to this point. We hope that everything is 'smooth sailing' for Kendricks regarding coming back to America and that he has a healthy recovery.
