Mississippi Top Five Boys Cross Country Athletes

Kevin Cooley, D'Iberville High at Southern Regions

---

5.    Kevin Cooley        D'iberville        Senior

Coming in at number five is D'iberville High senior Kevin Cooley. Better known for his speed in the middle distance races with 2:02/4:31 PR's from sophomore year, one can certainly tell that Cooley has put in the work this past summer in all of this "Corona Confusion". You could also put in Cooley's name for Most Improved, as Cooley lowered his 5k PR by almost 80 seconds! Cooley finished in the top 3 in six out of his eight races, with 3 of those races coming away with the win, plus a solid 6th place finish at the loaded MC Watson meet. Cooley ran at least 20 seconds faster than his old 5k PR on 5 separate occasions. Cooley also averaged a full 10 seconds faster than his PR from last year. Throw in his runner-up finish at the 6A State Championships, coming off of last year's 6th place finish, and you have yourself some solid improvements made by D'iberville senior Kevin Cooley. Look for sub 2:00/4:30 in the 800/1600, and I also wouldn't throw out sub 10 minutes in the 3200 come track season for this athlete.
