Name: Ashton Lovelace

School: Saltillo High School

Q: What does your training look like right now given the current situation?

A: long distance running each day and I was working out at my fitness center until it closed due to COVID 19. Lots of speed and agility drills.

Q: What are you doing to stay busy other than run right now?

A: Along with my individual running and strength conditioning, I join my older brother in is college workouts. He is on the track team for North Central University where I have also signed to play basketball and run track?

Q: What was your most memorable race/moment?

A: winning 1st in the 400 meter individual during Regionals last year (Junior) at Center Hill. Also Reaching the State Finals!

Q: What was the funniest thing that happened during your running career?

A: This wasn't funny then but now that I look back on it then I have to laugh. This year during my first race of the year in 100m at New Albany High school I had just caught the leader and was about to pull ahead when I got excited and over strided. Needles to say I wiped out just before the finish line! Still have scars!

Q: Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?

A: A few from Center Hill & Lafayette.

Q: What was your greatest accomplishment?

A: Winning Regionals, going to North Half and Finishing 6th in State last year during my Junior year.

Q: If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?

A: Train harder, take it more serious and start running individual events earlier in my career.

Q: What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

A: myself! I am very competitive and when I don't win then I get down on myself. It took me some time to realize how to be competitive while also enjoying the journey.

Q: What will you miss the most?

A: teammates, bus rides, Coaches and competing.

Q: What advice would you give to younger athletes?

A: start early, get individual training outside of High School and pursue track as an option at the College level.

Q: What kind of an impact has your coach had on you and your team?

A: Coach Rankin has encouraged me to give everything in every race. Most of all he has believed in me and the team so that encouraged us to compete even harder!

Q: What are your college plans?

A: I had several offers but finally after my official visit decided to accept a dual sport scholarship to play Basketball and Track for North Central University in Minneapolis Minnesota. I Look forward to competing at the NCAA Level and earning my degree in Physical Therapy/Sports Management.


Q: Who would you like to say 'thank you' to?

A: My parents because without their encouragement and support, none of this would be possible. Coach Rankin for believing in my track ability and last but not least, my basketball Coach Titus Goree! He is the one the pushed me hard to bring out my very best. He saw things in me that I didn't and I love him for everything he did for me!

Q: Is there anything else you'd like to add?

A: Trust God, Serve God, Be Humble, Be Teachable because we never will stop learning and always be Thankful no matter what your situation! Things could always be worse.

Q: Favorite Meal?

A: Mom's Fried Chicken and potatoes (sorry coach) and Hibachi Chicken!

Q: If you could be any animal what would you choose? and why?

A: Miniature Pompsky because they are Soo adorable and playful.
