Josie Whipp Signs With Mississippi College

Athlete

Josie Whipp, Parkview Baptist

What is your GPA and ACT score? 3.99 GPA and 30 ACT.

Describe why you choose College and what you liked on your visit to the college.

I found MC while just looking for relatively close colleges, and I heard a lot of good things from people I know who went there. On the visit, I was really sold when I talked to different professors like Harry Porter, and when I talked to the whole cross country team and Coach Reneker. It was the most welcoming environment out of all the colleges I visited.

What is your favorite workout your Coach has you do? I like doing long runs and hill repeats.

What is your least favorite workout?

We used to do Prefontaine's favorite workout, which is 200 meter intervals for 3 miles.

What events do you think they'll have you run in track as a freshman?

In track, I feel like I'll probably do the 10k or the 5k because I'm more keyed into longer distances.

What motivates you to run?

I love how it feels to push yourself to the limit, and for hard work to pay off. Even if I couldn't compete, I would still run all the time because it makes me happy.

What do you think about when you're running?

I usually have a song stuck in my head.

Gatorade or Powerade?

Gatorade.

Jersey, aka Singlet, tucked or untucked?

Tucked

Do you have a favorite meal for the night before a race?

Flavored ice shavings

Do you take ice baths? If yes, what do you think about during an ice bath?
Yes, pulling other teammates in.

Name a lesson that running and training as a runner has taught you.

The patience to work hard every day and not expecting results right away from anything (that everything that's worth something is earned.)

Do you have a rival runner?

I have some "rivals" in races, but I'm actually friends with most of them.

What do you do to recover after a race?

Eat everything in sight.

What is the strangest thing you've seen during a race?

At a lot of our regular cross country meets, another team's coach would always use a water gun to shoot water at the runners.

What advice would you like to share with younger runners just starting out their high school careers?

Don't be hard on yourself and realize that there are constant highs and lows over those 4 years.
