DP: What is your GPA and ACT score?
DA: 3.4 GPA and an ACT score of 22. I took another ACT this past Saturday and I hope to have made at least a 24 this time.
DP: Describe your visit to Southern Miss.
DA: My visit to Southern Miss went GREAT! I was able to spend time with the team and run with the team. I also enjoyed the time I was able to spend with the coaches.
DP: We've heard that you hit it off with some of the other recruits on your visit, tell us about that. I'm referring to the Southern 4 of Dylan Allen, Dylan Evans, Austin Bourne, and Preston Banks.
DA: I have been competing with Preston Burks since 9th grade and he is a pretty cool dude and talented runner. I have never had the opportunity to race against Austin but he's a pretty cool dude and also a talented runner and I look forward to racing with him. I have heard that Dylan Evans is a pretty talented athlete but of course, I have not had the opportunity to run with him yet but also look forward to it.
DP: What are you most looking forward to about your future career as a Golden Eagle?
DA: Competing for a Conference Championship and being part of an elite team.
DP: What is your favorite workout your Coach has you do?
DA: Lactic thresholds.
DP: What is your least favorite workout?
DA: 200's with active recovery
DP: What events do you think they'll have you run in track as a freshman?
DA: 5,000 meter and possibly one of the legs on DMR.
DP: What motivates you to run?
DA: Knowing that running can take me as far as I want it to if I put in the effort.
DP: What do you think about when you're running?
DA: I think about the reason WHY I am running.. two things #1- I love running! #2- Running is going to take me places and help me fulfill some of the dreams I have for myself.
DP: Do you have any superstitions on race day or perhaps an odd pre-race routine?
DA: I always have a toothpick in my mouth and my bandanna around my leg.
DP: Gatorade or Powerade?
DA: Gatorade of course!
DP: Jersey, aka Singlet, tucked or untucked?
DA: Definitely tucked in.
DP: Do you have a favorite meal for the night before a race?
DA: Chicken Alfredo from Tellini's
DP: Do you take ice baths? What do you think about during an ice bath?
DA: Yes. During an Ice bath, I listen to music to keep me distracted and focused on something else besides being cold.
DP: Name a lesson that running and training as a runner has taught you.
DA: Running and training has taught me the real meaning of discipline. It makes me strive to be a better person.
DP: Do you have a rival runner?
DA: Not really. I like everyone I compete with and have a great deal of respect for each of them. I just love competition.
DP: What do you do to recover after a race?
DA: I run a light 1/2 mile then go to the tent and eat a snack.
DP: How do you intend to balance academics and athletics in college?
DA: Focus on my school work just as much as I focus on my training.
DP: What is the strangest thing you've seen during a race?
DA: I haven't seen anything crazy during a race but during a long run last year, I saw an old lady trying to save her chicken from some dogs. I helped her get her chicken from the dogs and the chicken died in my arms! It was crazy.
DP: Who is your biggest fan?
DA: My mom.
DP: What advice would you like to share with younger runners just starting out their high school careers?
DA: Run hard and never lose focus. The older you get, the more things get in the way of staying focused on training. Keep pushing through because it's a great feeling to see all your hard work pay off.
DP: Is there anything else you want to share with the MileSplit Community?
DA: Thank y'all for everything you have done for me! Y'all are always so encouraging and supportive! And.... GO EAGLES!
DP: Southern Miss To The Top!
