Ladies at the Back Are Important Also

We all tend to overlook those athletes that are not in the top of the standings. The only ones that are there to cheer them in are their parents and their teammates. These are the ones being escorted in by their teammates and sometimes runners from other teams so that they can finish a race. I remember one young lady that I coached that never finished a race without puking. To me one of the moments I remember her coming up the hill at Choctaw Trails and as she crossed the line upchucking on the shoes of the timer. But she always was at practice and always finished a race she started. These athletes are a part of a team that are not out there for the glory but just to be a part of something and competing.
