State Meet Preview 2A, 4A, 6A

Lets do the events in order.

Girls 3200 - The overall State record of Corey McGee is not in danger this year but Kate Mattox and Rebecca Buteau should push it in the future. Those 2 will tie up in 6A and should break Rebecca Buteaus class record of 11:08 from 2013. In 4A Rachel Starnes of Lafayette and Regen McGee of Pass Christian will go head to head but I think the class record another Cory McGee record will be safe for this year.. Mikaelah Muse of New Site and Alayna McClure of H.W. Byers will be the leaders here but will not challege the class record set by Sarah Rivlin of St. Andrews.

Boys 3200 - I do not think the Overall record of Jake Raines will be challenged this year, but there will be some good races. In 6A Teammates Andrew White and Darnell Collier fronm Tupelo will lead the way here with Alex Ross of Starkville making it a 3 way race but due to race load I do not think the time will be super fast but all three could break the 10 minute barrier. In 4A Chandler Lester of Caledonia leads but I think he and Josh Hester of Florence and Nathan Tidwell could push the race pace to where they could be in the 10:20 range at least. Class 2A will be a good race with Jordon Salmon of East Union and Nakeveon Hardimon of J.Z. George going head to head which could produce at least a 10:40 plus or minus race.

Girls 100 Meter Hurdles. Unless someone has a super day I do not think Taryn Hartfields 14.14 record will be beat however there will be some great racing. In 2A Lashay Greenwood, Pisgah leads but could be challenged by Katie Rowan, East Union and Jazmyn House, J.Z. George and all three are underclassmen. Class 4A the class record will stand but a repeat of the South State race will pit Sharon Botley, McComb and Jada Jones, Moss Point in a close race and again both are underclassmen. In 6A the top runners are Harper Newell, Clinton, Raven Cowan, Murrah and Khadijah Qualls, Warren Central lead with Sub 15 second times but could be challenged by Zaria Tillman of Hattiesburg. All it will take is a tipped hurdle of someone with a great start and a very fast race could occur.

Boys 110 Meter Hurdles. The overall record of 13.95 by Evan Osborne will stand but some great racing will be on hand. In 2A Kenddrick Putman, Amite County should finish first but one mistake and Nicholas Bohannon, Madison St. Joe could pull off the upset. Class 4A has Victor Montgomery, McComb and if not for an injury I think he might have had a chance to challenge the overall record. The order here should be Victor followed by Tyler Pearson, Florence, and Orlando Tate, Yazoo County. In 6A underclassmen lead the way with Bryan Gordon, Madison Central, Lashard Durr, Harrison Central and Gralyn Jones, NW rankin are in a close 3 way race which will be good for times on Saturday.

Girls 100 Meter Dash. I do not think the overall record held by Bianca Knight is in jepardy this Saturday but some fast times could result. Class 2A Ashley Henderson of North Forrest could challenge the class record of 12.04 by France Booth from 1976. In 4A Syerie Moton, Northeast Lauderdale is injured but could still win over Quitman's Sendreca Howard in their 4th match up in 4 weeks, both are underclass with Moton a freshman. Could the class record fall probably not unless Motons ankle holds up. Class 6A has Demi Washington, who at 11.91 could challenge Bianca Knights record some day as she is only a freshman.

Boys 100 Meter Dash. Close races in all three classes but the overall record of 10.39 should hold up. Class 2A had Alvin Moore, Bassfield at 10.92 and should dominate. In 4a it could be much closere with 4 guys under 11.00 and only 2 onehundreths of a second separating Brandon Bryant, Rosa Fort and D.K. Buford, Lafayette. Class 6A is lead by John-Michael Hankerson, Southhaven with Tito Windham, Harrison Central and John Thurman, Clinton.

Girls 4X200 Meter Relay. The class record by Meridian from 1980 will fall. By how much is up to the Clinton High Girls. Class 6A Clinton leads all teams buy 4 seconds and should walk away with a new overall record. In 4A Mendenhall should win easily with a 2 second lead. Class 2A Amite County leads here by 2 seconds also so unless a DQ happens should come home first.

Boys 4X200 Meter Relay. In 2A Amite County leads by 2 seconds and should win, but they will not challenge the overall record that the school holds. Class 4A could be the best race of the day and with some good passing could challenge the class record held by Tylertown from 2013. Rosa Fort leads, but will be challenged by Senatobia and McComb. If Class 4A was good then Class 6A could challenge for the best race. Seven of the teams are at 1:29 or faster with Southhaven leading with a 1:28.94.

Girls 1600 Meter Run. The overall record of Corey McGee should be safe for another year but some good times will be run. Class 2A is lead by Reilly Reeves, Madison St Joe but all the girls here which means a class record should fall in the future. In class 4A Regen McGee leads but she will not challenge her sisters record on the way to her 2nd win of the meet. Class 6A this race will depend on how much Kate Mattox and Rebecca Buteau have left after their 3200 meter race. But I think Julia Cathcarts class record will still stand at the end of the day.

Boys 1600 Meters. The overall record by Rickey Crutcher of Pearl should still be standing at the end of the day. Class 2A should be an easy win for Nakeveon Hardiman, J.Z George unless he spends too much energy on the 3200. In 4A the question will be if Nathan Tidwell of Pontotoc can push Josh Hester, Florence to beat the class record held by Jordan Travis of Poplarville, Both are scheduled to run the 3200 meters. Class 6A will be a classic North versus South State with Alex Ross, Starkville having a 1 second lead over Nathan Bolner of Ocean Springs. This could be a great head to head race.

Girls 4X100 Meter Relay. Again the overall record by Clinton from 2013 will fall as long as the Clinton girls stay upright. Class 6A Clinton leads by a whopping 2 seconds. In 4A a close race but Mendenhall should win over South State foe McComb. Class 2A will be a dogfight with 3 teams at 52 second. Lealand leads but will be challenged by West Bolivar and Amite County.

Boys 4X100 Meter Relay. Could be some dogfights in all 3 races but the overall record by  Clinton in 2000 should be still standing at the end of the day. Class 2a has Bassfield with an easy 2 second lead. In 4A McComb and Rosa Fort are going to tie up with identical 42.48 times could the class record of 41.81 fall? We will have to wait and see. Class 6A is close with Clinton in the lead by 2 tenths of a second but Harrison Central, Terry and Southhaven ready to challenge.

Girls 400 Meter Dash. Well the overall record will not be challenged on Saturday the 53.57 set by Christy Fairley from George County in 2000 is safe until Monday. In 2A Ashley Henderson, North Forrest leads by 1 second over Rachael Hudson, West Bolivar. Class 4A Janae Westbrook, Lafayette leads her teammate Grianna Shaw and Kierra Gardner, Gentry is close enough to challenge. In 6A it is Kyla Lewis of Murrah leading Destiny Pickens, Gulfport by 7 tenths of a seconds.

Boys 400 Meter Dash. The overall record by Tavaris Tate, Starkville will stay safe for another year as the 400 Meters is not as fast this year. Class 2A has Jonathan Williams, Amite County leads by 3 tenths with a 51.19. In 4A Travis Tucker, Senatobia a freshman leads by 2 tenth in 50.20. Class 6A is lead by Peter Harper, Oak Grove with a 6 tenths of a second lead at 49.09.

Girls 300 Meter Hurdles. The overall record of 43.33 of Nichelle Webb, West Tallahatchie will not be challenged on Saturday.  In 2a it will be a close race with Mildrisia Travis, North Forrest leading Ashia Harvey, East Marion by 1 hundreth of a second. Class 4A is not as close with Sharon Botley, McComb leading all comers by over a second. In Class 6A it is Monica Mosley, Clinton a sophomore leading teammate Harper Newell a senior by 1.5 seconds.

Boys 300 Meter Hurdles. Again nobody will challenge the overall record of 37.34 of Antonius Dotson, Cleveland from 1988. Class 2A is led by Demshun Washington, Heidelberg by 1  hundredth of a second over MyKel McGee, South Delta a freshman. In 4A it is injured Victor Montgomery, McComb with 3 tenths lead over Kevorkia Brewer, Noxubee County. Class 6A is another close race with Alex Lipscolm, Columbus leading by just 3 hundreths  of a second over Lashard Durr Harrison Central.

Girls 800 Meter Run. Looks like Corey McGee;s record will stand still after Saturday. In Class 2a Taquesha Jones, West Bolivar leads Courtney McCoy, J.Z. George a freshman by .25 tenths of a second. Class 4a has Regen McGee leading by 3 second over Peyton Hamann of Lafayette. 6A is lead by  Rebecca Buteau, Madison Central over Keyana Boyd, Meridian.

Boys 800 Meter Run. The overall state record set by George Kersh, Pearl in 1987 of 1:49.24 is resolute as the starndard. Class 2A is lead by Dequadereick of West Bolivar by 13 seconds. Steven Burdette, Senatobia leads  4A by 7 seconds over the four runners from South State at 2:08. Class 6A has the only sub 2 minute runner with Mako Dijkwel, Tupelo maintaining a 2 second lead over the field.

Girls 200 Meter Dash. Bianca Knights 2007 record of 23.36 will stand but if the times run by some of the runners this year are an indication it could fall in the near future. Class 2A has Ashley Henderson, North Forrest with an easy lead of 25.39. In 4A Shendrica Howard leads with a 24.98  which could challenge the class record of 24.95. Class 6A has Demi Washington leading with 24.20 and she has been under 24 this year.

Boys 200 Meter Dash. Jermale Mosby's record of 21.08 from 2012 is safe for the time being. Class 2A Alvin Moore, Bassfield has a 3 tenths lead at 22.04. In 4A Brandon Bryant, Rosa Fort leads easily by 4 tenths at 22.15. Class 6A Jerin Allen, Harrison Central leads Burton Loenzen, Olive Branch by 2 tenths of a second.

Girls 4X400 Relay. 2A West Bolivar leads easily by 2 seconds. 4A McComb has a 6 second lead. Class 6A has Murrah leading with a 4:03 and a 5 second lead.

Boys 4X400 Relay. The 3:14 by Merdian in 1988 will stand. 2A has Amite County leads by 2 seconds. In 4A McComb has over a 2 second lead at 3;30. Class 6A if finally a close race with Oak Grove leading Meridian by less than 5 tenths of a second.
