Ashton Huey
Tupelo high school 2009-2013
Duke University 2013-

1. Who would you consider your biggest competitor over your years of competi0n?

Mainly myself, I struggled with various injuries throughout my career from a hip contusion, severely sprained ankle, and a torn mcl/pcl.

2. What do you consider your greatest accomplishment in track or cross country?

Second place finish in the pole vault for 6A or being invited to long jump at duke university.

3. If you could do it over again what would you change?

Definitely focus more on the jumps portion of my career earlier on. I really waited until my sophomore year to get serious with it instead of being a distance guy vaulting.

4. What was the most difficult obstacle you had to overcome?

Just trying practice jumping with limited resources. Our coach clay Stewart was wonderful he volunteered his time for years to coach us which were all very thankful for.

5. What will you miss the most?

Definitely my teammates and more importantly my coaches they've been wonderful and supportive in my 6 years of competition.

6. What advice would you giver younger athletes?

Never quit because your injured, yeah it sucks but things can only get better.

7. What influnce has your coach had with respect to your performance and overall life goals?

To always strive to get better in everything not just in athletics.

8. What are your college plans?

I'll be attending duke university in the fall and will be long jumping.

9. Who would you like to say thank you to?

Definitely my coaches (Nathan hall, Scott brown, Fred Hadley, Brian jones, Jonathan Begnaud, Anna Kathryn Sloan, and Earl Bell).

10 Is there anything else you would like to add?

I've enjoyed my years competing and I would like to wish all the people I met the best in their futures.
