Meet Information
Long Beach High School; Long Beach, MS will be hosting the MHSAA Region 4-5A, 4-6A, 7-4A, 8-4A & 3-1A Cross-Country Championships on Saturday; October 29, 2016. The meet site will be Long Beach High School 300 E. Old Pass Road Long Beach, MS 39560. Five varsity regions will be competing in the meet. Schools competing in the regional meet hosted by Long Beach are Region 4-6A: Biloxi, D'Iberville, George County, Gulfport, Hancock, Harrison Central, Ocean Springs, St. Martin / Region 4-5A: Gautier, Laurel, Long Beach, Pascagoula, Pearl River Central, Picayune, West Harrison / Region 7-4A: Forrest County, Vancleave, Greene County, Pass Christian, Poplarville, Purvis, / Region 8-4A: St. Stanislaus, East Central / Region 3-1A: Resurrection, Sacred Heart, Bogue Chitto, Nanih Waiya. Schools will be charged a $150 entry fee if you are entering both gender varsity teams and a $75 entry fee if you are only entering one gender varsity team.
We will also be running a District Championship Middle School Meet (boys & girls) on the same morning as the varsity regional championships. Middle school race entry fees will be $75 if you are entering both gender middle school championship races & $50 if you are only entering one gender middle school championship race. Make all entry fee checks payable to "Bearcat Running Club" Entry fees must be paid at the meet site on the morning of the meet. Do not mail entry fees.
All varsity boys & girls regional championship races will be 5,000 meters. The middle school girls & boys district championship races will be 4,000 meters. All schools will be limited to 10 runners in all varsity regional championship races. An unlimited number of runners per school will be allowed
The 4K & 5K race course running surfaces will be almost entirely grass. There is only one asphalt running stretch on the race courses. That asphalt running stretch is about 100 meters long & it's very near the Long Beach Lumpkin-Magee Stadium and Track & Field Complex which the runners will be entering for the finish of all races. It would be alright if your runners decide to wear racing spikes on our race courses. We had quite a number of runners that wore spikes during our invitational cross-country meet this season over the same race courses.
Schools should park their team buses in the parking lot located on the Cleveland Avenue side (west-side) of the Long Beach Lumpkin-Magee Stadium. Spectator parking is also available in the west-side stadium parking lot. Schools must set-up their team areas inside Long Beach Lumpkin-Magee Stadium. The first loop & a half of the race courses is located in the football practice field west of the stadium.
You will receive competitor number bibs in your team packet at the meet registration tent when checking-in on the morning of the meet. Each of your runners must wear their assigned competitor number bib in order to be scored in the meet. Daniel Friedline of Port City Timing will be the official meet scorer/timer. Complete results will be posted at the meet site following each race & on-line at milesplit following the conclusion of the meet
You must register your school as a participating team as well as enter your athlete in their respective varsity or middle school championship races on-line at mile split. The on-line entry deadline is Monday; October 24, 2016 at 11:59p.m. central time. No entries will be accepted after the entry deadline.
Regional Team Champion and runner-up team trophies will be presented in the varsity championship races. Over-all District Team Champion and runner-up team trophies will be presented in the middle school championship races. The top-10 finishers per region will receive individual ALL-REGION awards. The top-10 over-all finishers in the middle school races will receive ALL-DISTRICT awards.
